Why Spaying & Neutering Matters More Than You Think
Spaying and neutering are often thought of as routine, but they’re actually significant surgical procedures with lifelong benefits. At Helping Paws Animal Hospital, we focus exclusively on surgical care, and spays and neuters are among the most common procedures we perform for pets referred to us by their primary care veterinarians.
For female pets, spaying eliminates the risk of potentially life-threatening uterine infections (pyometra) and significantly reduces the risk of mammary tumors. In males, neutering helps prevent testicular cancer and can reduce behavioral issues such as marking, roaming, or aggression driven by hormones.
While some clinics handle these procedures in-house, others refer to us when pets may need more specialized attention—due to age, breed, anatomy, or underlying conditions. Our team is experienced in surgical monitoring, advanced anesthesia protocols, and pain management strategies to keep pets safe and comfortable throughout the procedure and recovery.
We also take time to consult with referring clinics and pet owners so everyone involved understands what to expect before, during, and after surgery. Our goal is to provide the same level of compassionate care we’d want for our own pets—especially when it comes to such an important preventive procedure.
